Artlink has recently completed the two projects working with male and female patients within the dementia wards at The Mount and Asket Croft. Artists Milena Dragic and Becky Cherriman worked with patients to explore the visual arts, creative writing and recording to collect memories for patients to share. Each ward was given a handmade book of their work. Images and writings from the project have now been produced into a book encapsulating the spirit of the project from patients, artists and staff. This book could also be used as a resource tool in similar settings. This project follows a series of taster sessions which Artlink faciliatated across day centres and wards in 2010. Jonathan Parker, Occupational Therapist at The Mount said, “The service users and staff are given an opportunity to work with specialist arts workers and engage in new experiences. Following a session with the Artlink team, we notice that the ward is much calmer”.
Please get in touch with Artlink if you would like a copy of the book.
Thank you to funding by the Evan Cornish Foundation.
