Artlink West Yorkshire Phoenix Building Project 2011
We have finally done it! As outlined in our ‘News’ page Artlink West Yorkshire raised the necessary funds for Phase II of our building project. It seems like a very long time ago that we undertook the initial Feasibility study in 2006. This initiative has enabled us to have a new and expanded workshop space in our basement with fully accessible, workshop and meeting areas, as well as disabled toilet and kitchen. We are delighted to also have fully built in storage units and double doors with access to our Art Garden.
We have a lift to all four floors of the building as well as a fully refurbished Arts Studio on the first floor. The entrance lobby on the ground floor has been opened up with the addition of a new front door.
Lastly, four beautiful stained glass windows were installed in both our front room meeting and gallery space, and our first floor studio. These were designed and developed with service users through funding from Arts Council, England. They were realised by artist Jo-Ann Eisenberg.
Our building contractors worked to a completion date of the project in mid April 2011. This was met and we moved back in on 17th May 2011, with a small launch which was followed up by our official launch in November 2011.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank the many trusts, foundations and grants giving bodies without whom none of this would have been possible.
We would also like to thank our Architects particularly Alison Davies of Groundworks Architects LLP, and our consultant Yvonne Deane of Deane Associates, as well as the many, many staff, professionals, volunteers and services users who have made this possible.
