The In The Moment project began in October 2014 and finished in January 2015 with exhibitions of the artwork. This project working with people living with dementia and their carers, took place at Donisthorpe Hall, a residential care home and Bay Tree Resource Centre, both based in Leeds. Participants explored the visual arts and creative writing with artists Beverley Haines and Becky Cherriman over this 10-week project together with a trip to Leeds Art Gallery. The project begain with participants being invited to a tea-party and then on a journey of artistic discovery, producing a vast array of work.
This was a very powerful and moving project. We saw connections forming with the artists and fellow participants. We were also privaledged to learn about people’s lives and to share our lives too. A care worker sums this up, “I’d never thought they’d stay as long as they did. I’ve learnt a lot about them today and about myself.”
We see this as the beginning of a major piece of development work within dementia, an area we’re looking to develop over the next few years. In the meantime, please enjoy looking through the images below.
